TL;DR

Georgia is very safe. Safer than most of Western Europe by many metrics. After 5 years living in Tbilisi, the biggest danger is eating too much khachapuri.

Crime: Impressively Low

Georgia has one of the lowest crime rates in Europe. Tbilisi is safer than Paris, Rome, Barcelona, and most major European capitals. Violent crime against tourists is extremely rare.

Petty crime (pickpocketing, bag snatching) exists but is much less common than in Western European tourist cities. The metro is safe. Walking at night is safe in central areas. Women traveling solo report feeling safer here than in most countries they've visited.

In 5 years, we've never experienced or witnessed a crime. Our Georgian friends leave their cars unlocked. Neighbors leave apartment doors open. The culture of trust is real.

Scams: Almost Non-Existent

Georgia has essentially no tourist scam culture. Compare this to Istanbul, Cairo, or Bangkok where every interaction might have an angle. In Georgia, when someone is friendly, they're just... friendly.

Driving: This Is the Actual Risk

If there's one genuine safety concern in Georgia, it's road safety. Georgian driving culture is... creative. Lane markings are suggestions. Speed limits are aspirational. Overtaking on mountain roads is a national sport.
